Customer Review: As Good Quality as Le Creuset Summary: 5 StarsI've lusted after a Le Creuset Dutch oven for years, but it was made worse by seeing the Julie and Julia movie. If I was going to cook like Julie/Julia, I had to have better equipment in my kitchen. I read all the reviews about the Le Creuset, but could not figure out how to justify spending that kind of money. Then I ran up on The Lodge Enameled Dutch Oven, and was intrigued. After reading the reviews on this site and others, I was sold and ordered it in the Caribbean Blue.
The color is gorgeous. In fact, I unboxed it and left it sitting on my coffee table as two of my friends came to visit and asked me about it. Both went home and ordered them. Yes, I finally put it away, but not for long. I've used it four nights this week.
If you want to braise meat, make soups or stews, chicken in wine, Beef Burgundy, a mean pasta sauce, this is the pot. It heats evenly, feels very heavy and solid. The lid fits on it evenly. The enamel inside feels substantial and scrubbable. I wash mine by hand, when I do my good knives. You can pop it from the stovetop to the oven to the table.
I still get excited just getting it out to cook, and now I want more Caribbean Blue pieces. I told my husband last night, I hope it holds up as well as Le Creuset, and he said at this price, if it lasts a few years and then has a problem, I could replace it several times for the same price. But with the warranty it is, I won't need to.
Customer Review: Don't be fooled! Not american made. Summary: 1 StarsI purchased this Dutch Oven when I read a review stating this comes from a little company in the USA. When I received the box it stated made in China. I called the company and they said that all their Enameled Dutch Ovens come from China. This is a big concern since there has been issues with China's lead addition to their paints. We've addressed this issue to some extent with Children toys manufactured in China but I am hesitant to believe that all their addition of lead in other products have been eliminated.
Customer Review: Great-looking, great-performing enameled Dutch oven Summary: 5 StarsThis pot replaced a 6.5qt red enameled Dutch oven I'd bought at Sam's Club. The red enamel had chipped & quickly dulled (despite never using anything above med heat on the stove). I wanted Le Creuset, but they're just too spendy right now. So, I got my money back at Sam's, and spent an additional $27 on this blue beauty. The handles are much larger than the ones on the Sam's Club version, and at 2c less, it's easier to lift, handle and wash. The rounded bottom also makes stirring & cleaning easier. I've used it 4x since I bought it 2wks ago, and I love it! I check the finish carefully after washing and drying, and so far, it looks perfect. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Lodge makes a better product than Tramontina did, because although I can return it for an exchange or a refund, it's still inconvenient. I just want a pot that works well, and won't look progressively worse after each use. I've made soup, braised chicken paprikash, and made my best pot of chili EVER! So far, I am thrilled with this Dutch oven.
Customer Review: 3 Hour Pot Roast Summary: 5 StarsI love this pot. I use it to make a great pot roast. It makes a wonderful meal every time.
