Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Lodge Logic Pre-Seasoned 5-Quart Dutch Oven with Loop Handles

Customer Review: Great for stews
Summary: 4 Stars

I like this dutch oven very much. I used it to cook pork roast with onions and apples, and it came out fork tender and delicious. The lid is heavy enough to make sure none of the moisture or juices evaporate while it is in place. It is versatile enough to use on top of the stove for stews and soups, it bakes in the oven for roasts, and it goes on the grill for beans and for anything that you want to impart a smoky flavor. Make sure you follow the directions for curing the pot, and clean up relatively quickly after use. I rub in a little oil after cleaning and I do not store it with the lid on. This traps moisture and leads to rusting on the inside of the pot. After using for a couple of months, it seems built to last a lifetime.

Customer Review: Excellent for bread baking with the no-knead bread recipes
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a nice, heavy, but low-cost Dutch Oven for bread baking. Take advantage of free amazon shipping on this heavy pot. Very nice basic cast iron pot. And seasoned already for lower effort.

Customer Review: Love it!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best additions to my cookware. I use it for so much more than I thought I would both on top of the stove and in the oven. Haven't had any problems whatsoever with the pre-seasoning, and the price and free shipping make it a great bargain.

Customer Review: A Classic Dutch Oven!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just love cast iron cooking. Got the 5 qt dutch oven and used it tonight to make an "old school" mac & cheese. Like all my cast iron that are new I always reseason them with veggie oil in the oven at 350 for about an hour. Just adds another layer of seasoning. Started the recipe on the stove top and finished with the cast iron in the oven. The recipe came out great with nice baked sides. Browned the top under the broiler for about 3 minutes. If anything was going to stick which I figured it would since this is still new and not seasoned like my other pieces this would be a nice test. I had the most sticking around the sides along the top of the mac and cheese. I just filled the dutch oven with hot water and heated it up on the stove top. Then I let the water set for about an hour to cool down and scrubbed it with my dedicated (no soap) brush. The crust on the sides cleaned right off. No problem. Wiped dry and warmed it on my stove top while wiping it with veggie oil. Over time clean up will just get easier. I will fry some bacon in it the next few times to speed up the seasoning process. Funny how the "best" cookware is the least expensive plus still made in the good ole USA!

Customer Review: 5 Qt DO Heaven
Summary: 5 Stars

Just received my Lodge 5 Qt Dutch Oven. I also ordered the Lodge meat rack/trivet and Max Temp handle mitt. All items arrived in perfect condition. The DO is larger than I was envisioning from seeing the box at a retail store. From the time it was shipped to the time I received the items was less than 24 hours( shipped from KS to MO). Bonus: The 5 qt DO lid fits my 10 1/4 inch Lodge cast iron skillet.
