I like Lodge cast iron items. I have many diffrent sizes of these work horses. They are versatile; you can fry, saute, roast. They are virtually non-stick in many situations, provided that they are properly seasoned. Although they are preseasoned, I season them again before using them. This process enhances non-stcik prioperties.
This particular size is good to sautee small portions of pretty much anything. Highly recommend them.

The day I was going to buy this my local store had a clearance on a big name premium cookware line that had some cast iron stuff. Of course, I bit. Yikes! Made in China cheapie stamped with brand name, price jacked up, then lowered on clearance!
There just isn't any cast product I've found for more or less that performs like the Lodge line. Made in the USA you know you are getting quality cast w/o the impurities (I use cast and glass cookware only for this reason, with zero no stick sprays or coatings). This is just a great, quality item, well made, works well with great heat distribution. And it isn't costly, and it is pre-seasoned (and seasoned well, unlike the "expensive" one I got marked way, way down).
For me it is Lodge Brand or nothing from now on.

First off, let me say that I really love Lodge cast iron. I've been collecting it for the last few years and love the quality and that fact that it's made here in the US. Having said that, I wish that the marketing people at Lodge would be a little bit more honest in their sizing information. I purchased this 6-1/2" skillet but the actual cooking surface is 5". Barely big enough to grill a sandwich on. Maybe a small piece of fish or a couple eggs. Some people need to know the larger size, perhaps for storing reasons, but it would be nice if they would include the information that that is the top edge, side to side, and then include the information on how large the actual cooking surface is. I have found it most helpful to actually check out the pieces you want to purchase in the store first, then come back here and order, if you like. For that reason alone, they have lost a star. Other than that, it's a fantastic product.
